Tiki-Apex Project Approved by the HSPB
December 14, 2010
The RHE architectural committee conducted a restoration study to determine the engineering feasibility of re-fabricating the tiki-apexes. You may recall that these elements are another defining feature of tiki- or Polynesian-modern architecture, and were removed from the outrigger beams in the 1990s.
The restoration study resulted in a series of preservation grants from the Palm Springs Preservation Foundation. These grants provided an opportunity to produce a prototype of the original tiki-apexes. o2 Architecture relied heavily on vintage 1960s photographs to capture the appropriate scale and proportions and consulted with modernist architect Donald Wexler.
The unanimous vote of support by the HSPB allows this project to move forward.
