In recognition of RHE's historic designation, the Palm Springs Preservation Foundation hosted a free educational event at the Royal Hawaiian Estates on Sunday, November 28, 2010.
The event included a lei greeting, home tours, and a presentation by city council member Rick Hutcheson. Rick introduced the page to be included in Palm Springs Preservation Foundation’s Class 1 Guide to Historic Sites of Palm Springs. The home tours showcased as much of the original architecture and interior design as possible.
In addition, Lance O’Donnell, principal, o2 Architecture, explained the tiki apex design project and discussed their clever solution to guarantee the accurate reconstruction of these significant architectural elements that were removed in the 1990s. The tiki apex project was completely funded by three generous grants from the Palm Springs Preservation Foundation.
